Figure skating at its best
March 22–28 2021

Championships with focus on health and safety

In March, it is time for the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Stockholm, Ericsson Globe. We are working intensively together with ISU to provide great Championships in a different way. The Stockholm 2021 World Championships will be an extra exciting event as the skaters have not competed against each other throughout the season due to the pandemic. It will be a fantastic opportunity to see the world’s best skaters’ berths for the Olympic Games 2022 in Beijing.

It is both challenging and exciting to conduct these Championships in a different way for the first time. We are very proud that despite the pandemic we can offer the participants and everyone interested world-class Championships, says Ulrika Molin, President for the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2021

The health and safety of the participants is our highest priority. We have a close collaboration with ISU to ensure a safe organization of the event. What kind of measures this entails is not yet decided.

We work very closely with ISU to develop a plan to carry out the Championships with the participants’ health as our main focus. We are also collecting experiences from other sporting events, says Peter Levin, technical manager for the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2021

As the uncertainty continues about how many spectators can be allowed in March, we are also working to provide digital solutions that allow figure skating enthusiasts to get closer to the event.

We are trying to think new and are currently looking into the possibilities to offer an extra digital experience. Our goal is that all interested will be able to take part of the event in a different way, says Peter Levin

A major uncertainty for all organizers of international sports events in Sweden has been the entry ban from countries outside EU. The Swedish government recently decided that from November 20, participants in international sports events are allowed to travel to Sweden from all countries.

We are happy that one of the biggest obstacles to being able to carry out the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2021 has now been removed, says Ulrika Molin
